About Lena.

Lena grew up in Sweden and has lived in Australia since her teenage years, speaking fluent English as a second language. Lena has recovered from childhood trauma to build a loving network of friends, community, and a blended family. She takes joy in reading, yoga, and competitive swimming, where she is a Masters champion.

Lena is a qualified, counselling therapist who feels strongly that mental health is just as important as any other health issue in our lives. Her passion is to support people to maintain good mental health. Lena’s counselling experience extends across a range of professional organisations, which specialise in different areas. This has provided her with extensive knowledge and expertise in psychological interventions for her clients. In her role as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, with a Master of Counselling, Lena believes everybody deserves a safe and respectful therapeutic environment in which to engage in counselling.  Lena uses a collaborative approach, and specialises in supporting people who come from anxiety, depression, trauma, suicide ideation, and domestic or family violence.  Recently, she has been providing a clinical service for clients who have suicidal thoughts, or who have attempted to end their life.Lena has taught at several Universities in Brisbane and is currently providing supervision to social work students at QUT

What Happens During a Session?

Lena is passionate about providing a holistic approach to supporting people towards improved well-being by acknowledging the uniqueness of each person.People from diverse communities, including those from the GLBTIQ+ community, can be vulnerable to unique stressors and Lena has experience in providing inclusive counselling. A session usually lasts one hour to one hour and a half hour, and is available face-to-face, via phone or Skype.  With a professional and a supportive approach, Lena can help people who require assistance with:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bullying
  • Discrimination
  • Trauma (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or complex PTSD)
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship issues
  • Addictions
  • Suicidal thoughts or feelings

How often a person attends counselling is up to them and the issues they are addressing. In general, people will initially arrange weekly to fortnightly sessions, and then monthly, or just when they feel it is needed.

How much does it cost?

Lena generally charges $120per hour, however fees can be discussed prior to the first session, and payment is to be made at the end of each session. Cancellations can be made by email or by calling Lena no later than 24 hours prior to the session, or a cancellation fee will be incurred.

Can I claim on my Health Fund?

Most private health funds will cover a portion of the treatment costs. The exact amount depends on which fund, and which level of cover you have. Medicare Enhanced Primary Care will also cover a portion of treatment costs if you are referred by your GP.

Other services

Lena also provides supervision for health professionals and students; consultations; training and court reports. As a member of the Australian Association of Social Work, she remains committed to professional development.

Lena Lundell Counselling operates as a private practice and is available in two locations –  at Bardon Counselling and Natural Therapy Centre and at Stonewall Medical Centre, Windsor.
