There’s only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.
Aldous Huxley

One of the most important results you can bring into the world is the You that you really want to be.

The Sufi Bayazid says this about himself: ‘I was a revolutionary when I was young and all my prayer to God was, “Lord give me the energy to change the world.”

As I approached middle age and realised that half my life was gone without changing a single soul, I changed my prayer to: “Lord, give me the grace to change all those who come in contact with me. Just my family and friends, and I shall be content.”

Now that I am an old man and my days are numbered, my prayer now is: “Lord, give me the grace to change myself.” If I had prayed for this right from the start I should not have wasted my life.

About Peter Culross.

Peter has been working as a Psychologist since 1983. He is registered with the Psychologists Board of Queensland and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society. He is also an accredited Relationships Counsellor and an accredited Addictions Counsellor.

What Can Peter Offer You?

Peter offers experienced, competent, ethical and professional assistance for personal and relationship healing and growth. He assists people with a range of needs related to their psychological and emotional health and well-being. His work addresses a broad range of emotional, psychological, relationship and family issues, including difficulties with anxiety, depression, stress, anger, loss and grief, trauma, insomnia, communication, conflict resolution, intimacy, self-esteem, addictions and codependence, as well as assisting the process of positive transformation.

Peter has an integrative approach to therapy that embraces a range of effective modalities, including a number of experiential approaches. He will tailor an individualised approach according to his client’s personal needs.Peter Culross counselling

In Peter’s professional experience, he has found that the most effective approach to change is an ‘integrative’ approach that embraces and combines a broad range of modalities and a variety of different strategies. In his work, Peter draws on solution-focused, cognitive, behavioural, experiential, imaginal, inner-child, somatic, mindfulness, transpersonal, psychodynamic, energy psychology, family systems and interpersonal techniques to help clients change, working at the level of mind, body, emotion, imagination, and spirit. By combining a number of effective change agents, he has found that more people will successfully be helped with this approach than by narrow, single-technique treatments or therapy models that only utilise one or two types of intervention, at one level or dimension of your being.

What Happens During a Session?

Through the counselling process, Peter aims to provide a supportive environment for clients to share and work through their difficulties, to assist in developing skills and strategies to change unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours, to help reduce and control negative emotional states, and to lessen any underlying sensitivity or vulnerability to future episodes. He provides more immediate short-term assistance and longer-term interventions for more complex issues.

Counselling is very much based on a collaborative teamwork model in which the clients are an active participant and partner. His aim in treatment is to empower clients to develop self-management skills with which to address their problems, achieve their goals, and to prevent recurrence of their difficulties.

How much does it cost?

The one hour standard consultation fee is $160.00, exempt from GST. (Please note, the fee currently recommended by the Australian Psychological Association for a one hour consultation is $260.00).
