About Prue Walmsley
Prue is a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist, with additional Psychotherapeutic qualifications. She is currently completing her third year of her Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland, with the intention of transitioning into work as a Clinical Psychologist following the completion of her studies. In addition to this, she is a qualified 200-hour Yoga Teacher and attends regular workshops at the Queensland Jung Society, deepening her understanding of the unconscious, dream work, and internal imagery.
Prue’s work is grounded in the assumption that the deep intelligence of the subconscious mind, your inner guidance system, knows what is best for you and is constantly working toward your safety and survival. However, sometimes the path toward safety and survival can become confused or misguided by unprocessed stress, emotion, or trauma. Through hypnotherapy, these survival pathways can be gently recoded, guiding you toward a more desired and empowering path ahead.
The beauty of hypnosis is that it has the power to be deeply healing and empowering without requiring you to recall every detail, or any detail for that matter, of your past. This allows space for those who feel ‘stuck’ yet do not know what the cause of this is; for those who do not feel ready to talk about something that has happened; or for those who do not recall what has happened but know that something has.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Unprocessed stress, emotions or trauma — whether from adverse childhood experiences, grief, life-changing events, toxic relationships or relationship conflict, birth trauma, and even experiences that occurred in-utero — can affect us in a variety of ways. Culturally, we have been conditioned to dismiss or avoid any sign of struggle that may arise, pushing the emotional repercussions of such events further and further down into our nervous system. In turn, causing a complete disconnection from the mind and the body. Overtime, this can present as chronic pain, illness, stress, fatigue, burnout, sleep disruptions, anxiety, recurring patterns, inflammation, addictions, people pleasing behaviours, disconnection from self, and so on…
If you were to break a bone and leave it to heal without medical intervention, the bone would eventually repair itself, and the surrounding muscles and tissues would adapt and continue to function around the injury. The same is true for the impact of psychological trauma on the nervous system. The main function of your body is to keep you safe, meaning any form of stimuli that serve as a reminder of a traumatic event will be flagged as an alarm, and your sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses) will immediately be on guard. This process happens automatically, without any conscious input.
The principles of hypnotherapy are grounded in the understanding that language is a primary function of how we process information, both input and output — this is simply neuroscience. To create therapeutic shifts within the nervous system, hypnotherapy works with language to reduce activation of the regions of the brain responsible for analysis, logic, and factual reasoning (the conscious mind), while opening access to the regions of the brain which govern emotions, imagination, creativity, intuition, and the emotional memory behind every experience that you have ever had (the subconscious mind).
In essence, hypnosis is a natural state in which new learning can take place within the brain. By reducing the activity of the conscious mind, the brain becomes more receptive to new, felt experiences created through therapeutic suggestion, allowing space for profound change to occur.

What Happens During a Session?
All consultations open with a conversation about your current experiences, what you would like to work through, and what type of changes you would like to see unfold from the work that we do together.
Once all required information is gathered, the session will close with the trance work itself, which involves you comfortably laying down on a couch with your eyes closed. This will feel like a deeply relaxing meditation. You will be conscious the whole time and able to hear everything that Prue is saying, so if at any point you feel uncomfortable, you can open your eyes and communicate this – this will not disrupt the process.
Depending on the individual, changes can be seen from the first session, but a series of 4 sessions (1 session per week for 4 weeks) is recommended, then this can be reduced to fortnightly or monthly, at your discretion.
How much does it cost?
An initial consultation is $150.00 for 90-minutes and subsequent consultations are $130.00 for 60 minutes. You can opt for an extended subsequent consultation, which will be $150.00 for 90-minutes.
